Kilns

Interested in purchasing a kiln? We are here to answer all your questions, put together quotes (including delivery if desired), and offer suggestions to make your purchasing process go as smooth as possible.

All kiln orders come with the kiln and stand ONLY. Other accessories, such as Furniture Kits (shelves, posts, & kiln wash), Venting System, Delivery, and Installation are an additional cost. (If you’re curious about your delivery cost, you can refer to our freight information on the FAQs page.)

Kilns are typically made to order, which means they can take between 8-10 weeks** to arrive at our warehouse. For delivery, it usually takes 1-2 weeks to bring it out to you.

If you are interested in a kiln other than Skutt, no worries! We can also order L&L, Coneart, Amaco, & Paragon kilns.

Kiln Refractory and Furniture

We carry a wide range of shelves for all sizes of kilns along with posts and stilts.

Thorley Refractories (Cordierite) - Laguna

Our general selection of stock Kiln Shelves and Kiln Posts. They are made from high refractory material and are acceptable for temperatures up to cone 6, based on Laguna’s recommendation.

We carry a variety of specialty shelves as follows:

Specialty shelves are kept in stock at our Braintree store, but can be transferred to our Portland Store on request.

Corelite Shelves (Hollow Cordierite) - Standard

Cone 10 strong cordierite. Chambered design means any cracks are less likely to propagate.

Energy efficient - less mass in shelves will save time and money in firing efficiency.

Superior heat circulation and warp/sag resistance using I-beam extruded construction. 

Amazingly strong yet lightweight, 24% lighter than same size traditional shelves. Your back will feel the difference!

Extremely flat. Surfaces of every shelf are ground flat, ensuring a straight flat shelf.

Mulcorite Shelves - Hammill & Gillespie

Very similar characteristics to the Corelites, but more cost efficient.

Advancer Shelves- Hammill & Gillespie

Supports heavy loads with minimal mass

Reduces kiln furniture to ware ratio

Safer and easier to stack and unstack loads

Supports heavy loads without warping

Glaze resistant** (lower maintenance costs)

Faster heat transfer (reduced energy consumption)
