Adult Classes
Portland Pottery offers informative, fun and relaxing classes at our Studio location in Portland, ME. Learn all about clay, wheel-throwing techniques, hand building, and the process of glazing and firing. We hope you’ll join us soon!
Our 8-week classes include group and individual instruction, weekly talks, demonstrations, and critiques of finished pieces.
Classes at 118 Washington Avenue use cone 10 clay and firing in the reduction kiln. Classes meet for three hours once per week for eight weeks (i.e. meets every Monday, 6pm-9pm).
Introductory classes are offered at our new 49 Fox Street location and use mid-fire clay.
Looking for a one-off pottery class? Join us for an upcoming Fridays at Fox semi-private party (think date night, an evening with pals, a night on the town solo). Friday Night Info Here

Enrollment Information
We are thrilled that you are interested in taking one of our adult classes and joining our studio! Our goal is to have everyone who wants to take classes or join the studio to be able to. We open up registration every two months. Existing students and members have priority and then we open spots up to the mailing list.
Sign up for our Mailing List to hear about future class openings and other events happening at the studio, such as workshops.
Cancellation Policy
For adult clay classes and memberships: Full refunds can be given if cancellations are made more than 72 hours before the first class of the session starts. No refunds are given for cancellations made within 72 hours of the first class of the session. If you haven’t paid and haven’t let us know you’d like to cancel 72 hours before the first class of the session, you’ll be required to pay for the session because we’ve held a spot for you.
Open Studio Hours
Portland Pottery offers open studio access seven days a week for currently enrolled members or students (excluding intro classes) at the Washington Avenue location. Given that our studio has limited space, open studio rental is no longer available to non-students and members.
The priority for the glazing spaces should be given to students actively taking a class. If the glaze room is mostly full of people from classes in session, please glaze at a different time.
General Studio Hours:
Monday-Thursday 9:00am-9:00pm
Friday 9:00 am-7:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm
Please leave yourself plenty of time to clean up (30 mins!) before the studio closing time so employees aren’t waiting to close down the studio.
Please note that there may be workshops, special events, make up classes and studio cleaning in addition to the regularly posted hours. We will make every effort to announce these events during class prior to these one-time events.
